About two months ago, Jeppesen and app developer ForeFlight announced an alliance that would allow users to select Jeppesen charts on the ForeFlight Mobile electronic flight bag (EFB) iOS app, and now the new functionality is up and running in ForeFlight version 9.2. Until this new feature was implemented, ForeFlight Mobile customers were limited to IFR charts covering North America and some parts of the Caribbean and Central America. Now users can fly with Jeppesen charts anywhere in the world where Jeppesen offers coverage, and ForeFlight users can purchase the new charts directly on the ForeFlight website.
The Jeppesen subscription is available in 13 coverage areas around the world, and it includes departure, arrival and terminal procedures, as well as Jeppesen Airway manuals. Jeppesen subscribers can use an extra product key to link their subscription into ForeFlight, although this doesn’t apply to installed avionics subscriptions.
ForeFlight can display Jeppesen charts as “plates on map” with the charts geo-referenced to show aircraft position, along with weather overlays. This includes departure and arrival charts and approach plates. Data-driven IFR en route charts will be added later this summer, and these will be included automatically for Jeppesen purchasers or those with linked subscriptions.
