The Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) is hosting a grand opening on March 17 of its new 109,000-sq-ft campus in Norfolk, Virginia. The maintenance trainer, which has more than a dozen locations, recently relocated its regional training facilities from Chesapeake, Virginia into what has become its largest training campus.
In addition to expanding its space in Virginia, AIM recently increased its training capabilities with the addition of two airplanes, including a Sabreliner 80 that was donated on behalf of the Academies of Hampton in conjunction with The Flying Classroom and Women in Aviation-Southeast Virginia Chapter. It also has added a Cessna 421.
Further, the center will build on a collaboration between AIM with the Hampton City Schools’ Academies of Hampton and Norfolk Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education program. The first class of 11th and 12th graders will begin aviation maintenance courses at AIM in August. They will have the opportunity to earn up to 19 college credits that transfer to AIM programs, as well as FAA certifications involving unmanned aerial systems piloting and general aviation.
