Bombardier Business Aircraft delivered a second air-ambulance-configured Challenger 650 to Swiss Air-Rescue Rega on Wednesday. The Swiss air ambulance service will take possession of a third, similarly outfitted Challenger 650 by year-end, completing the replacement of its earlier-generation Challenger 604 fleet. Notably, Rega’s new Challengers are outfitted with intensive care units.

 


“Over the years, Bombardier Challengers have proven their reliability and endurance, and helped Rega come to the aid of so many people. We are proud to have our aircraft continue to play a part in life-saving work,” said Bombardier Business Aircraft president David Coleal. Rega acquired its first large-cabin Challenger in 1982 and has operated the type ever since.

 


The non-profit organization carries out air-rescue operations in Switzerland with a fleet of 17 helicopters and repatriates patients from abroad with its three Challengers.

 


Compared with the Challenger 605, the 650 features higher-thrust engines and a Bombardier Vision flight deck. The 604’s range is 4,000 nm, according to Bombardier.
