UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS), long a supplier of onboard water systems, believes it has found an add-on that will appeal to the business-jet market: a tiny, powerless, filterless water purifier.
The four-pound unit uses minimal water pressure and can be integrated into systems that don't have filtration, or can replace current filtration systems, most of which use ultraviolet or fine micron-based technology. Those systems typically weigh eight to 10 pounds, not counting wiring, which the UTAS system will not need.
The purification unit, which uses a proprietary technology based on silver nanoparticles, can be scaled to meet customer needs. UTAS (Booth N2904) is testing the system and expects to have it available for customers in early 2018.
