Mobile communications provider Cobham Satcom is introducing the latest edition of its Aviator portfolio of airborne systems at this year's NBAA Convention. The compact Aviator S series, suitable for light to large-cabin jets, will enter the qualification phase of development this year with expected certification in 2018 through an EASA TSO.
The Aviator 200S, which weighs a little more than 13 pounds, is the smallest and lightest Inmarsat system available, according to the manufacturer. The two-LRU solution with a Helga antenna is specifically suited to business aircraft with limited space for equipment.
Designed for easy installation, the Aviator series also includes the Aviator 600S with IGA5001 antenna, and 700S with HGA antenna, both of which support separate channels for the cockpit and for the cabin.
Through Inmarsat’s new SwiftBroadband-Safety (SB-S) IP data service, the series will give pilots access to four-dimensional information.
Cobham’s Aviator series provides voice and data communications on a broad range of business jets, enabling office-in-the-sky functionality. The Aviator 200 and 300 systems provide an upgrade path from legacy Aero M units, while the 300D, 350, 700 and 700D systems are certified on large number of business jets.
At its booth (N4027), the company is also highlighting its Aviator Special Purpose (SP) systems, which allow smaller aircraft—that require multichannel for expanded bandwidth requirements or special environmental qualifications—to use the L-band on the Inmarsat SwiftBroadband network.
Denmark-based Cobham Satcom also offers a range of high-, intermediate- and low-gain Inmarsat aeronautical antennas to support Inmarsat SwiftBroadband, Swift 64 and classic Aero I/M services.
