ICAO Outlines Bizav Standards Adopted in 2016
List includes CVR recording protection, required communications and navigation performance and safety management data, among others.

ICAO has published a summary of changes to its standards and recommended practices (Sarps) relevant to business and general aviation that were adopted by the ICAO Council this year. Unless otherwise indicated, the changes became applicable on November 10, though some of the changes to ICAO Annexes are not applicable to the operator until state governments implement the requirement.

Revised equipment and procedures include CVR recording protection (applicable Oct. 7, 2019) and extended recorder times (applicable to aircraft with mtow of more than 59,500 pounds certified after Jan. 2, 2021); required communications performance; performance-based navigation performance; global reporting format for runway surface conditions; jet airplane operating procedures for determining landing performance (effective for aircraft certified after Nov. 5, 2020); integration of safety management systems; and safety management data and information.

In addition, changes also include updated guidance material and correction of inconsistencies in relation to enhanced and synthetic vision systems. Also, exceptions to these Sarps are standards governing the conduct of flights over international waters.
