GlobalParts Group of Augusta, Kan., has acquired the type certificate (TC), intellectual property, tooling and assets of the 1960s-vintage Meyers/Aero Commander 200 piston single and formed a subsidiary, Interceptor Aviation, to facilitate the servicing and support of the aircraft.

The acquisition also includes the TC for, and the sole example of, the Interceptor 400, a pressurized, TPE331 turboprop-powered variant of the Meyers 200 that first flew in June 1969 and received FAA type certification in 1971.

Malissa Nesmith, senior v-p and COO, told AIN, “The decision was a fairly straightforward one when we discovered that they were available. Providing parts and support for general aviation aircraft is what we do.”

According to Nesmith, the company is also surveying the market to determine demand for the Interceptor 400. “We are currently getting all the drawings and information digitized. We’re working with the National Institute for Aviation Research at Wichita State University on the project and are moving forward with the idea that it will go into production.”

Nesmith said it would be a two- to three-year process for research and development, putting actual production about five years out.
