As part of its ongoing efforts to promote aviation careers, AAR Aircraft Services most recently hosted a career day tour and job skills workshop for 40 sophomores and juniors from Miami Central High School.
Students had a chance to experience the job seeker’s “hot seat” during interviews conducted by engineers, aircraft technicians and inspectors from the local AAR team, who also gave students a tutorial on facility operations and shared stories about their personal journeys into aviation careers. The opportunity to meet and interview with aviation industry professionals is to help prepare students for upcoming summer internships that, for many, will be their first job experience. Students also learned how to compile and write resumes, and how to research and prepare for interviews.
“High schools are increasingly focusing their career education efforts on technology,” said AAR senior human resources manager Vicky Sokolowski. “We want students to know that aviation is a growing industry and that there are career opportunities available to them.”
Since 2011, AAR has worked with the school to assist with tutoring in reading and math.
