Eurocopter has opened a new global logistics facility in Les Florides industrial park near its production plant in Marignane in the south of France. It joins a logistics distribution system that includes facilities in Donauwörth, Germany; Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport, France; and Hong Kong as well as customer service centers in both Hong Kong and Dallas. The nearly 576,000-sq-ft, $98 million facility houses more than 1.5 million parts, is staffed by approximately 750 employees and is expected to handle the delivery of more than 300,000 parts a year. The facility features an eco-friendly design that uses natural lighting, a platform with photovoltaic panels, and a combination of air and water for efficient temperature control in the offices. A paperless procedure for the location and retrieval of stocked parts is intended to eliminate the printout of some 110,000 copies per year. Eurocopter is also recruiting up to 300 engineers with more than four years of experience to join its research and development teams in Marignane, France and Donauwörth, Germany.
