Next month, Greece’s new Athens International Airport is expected to send final bid requests to five or six shortlisted candidates to build and operate an FBO. The shortlist was to have been finalized on August 16, but this was delayed due to a higher-than-expected level of interest from FBO candidates. The winning bidder is expected to be announced by year-end. Targeted completion of the estimated $22.5 million FBO has now slipped to next March, allowing just over a year of operations before the airport acts as a gateway for the 2004 Olympic Games, which Athens is hosting. The complex will include hangars for based and visiting aircraft (up to bizliner size) and also room for maintenance providers.
