Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating signed a bill creating an autonomous Aeronautics Commission. The commission, to become a separate agency next month, had been a part of the state DOT since 1976. “Aeronautics was always having to compete with highways and other departments within DOT for recognition and funding,” said AOPA southwest regional representative Jerry Hooper. “Now they will have more flexibility and control over their own programs.”
