Pratt & Whitney has installed the first JT8D-200 series QuietEagle noise reduction system on a VIP McDonnell Douglas MD-87. The system, which includes a 16-lobe internal mixer, exhaust muffler, tabbed nozzle and improved front fan case, is said to bring JT8D-200s into compliance with FAR Part 36 Stage 4 and ICAO Annex 16 Chapter 4 noise standards. The QuietEagle hardware was developed by Pratt & Whitney and licensed exclusively to Aviation Fleet Solutions, which installed the system for the first customer, Siviera Invest. “We can now fly through Europe confident that we comply with the most recent noise regulations for civil aircraft,” said the company. Airlines can purchase the QuietEagle system directly from Aviation Fleet Solutions or as part of JT8D-200 service contracts via Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners.
