To clarify the consolidation effort under way at Garrett/Piedmont Hawthorne/Associated, as reported in Tuesday’s AINalerts, a company spokesperson said that the Long Island, N.Y. and Columbus, Ohio facilities will be closed entirely within the next couple of months. The engine work performed at Long Island, as well as the engine work done at the company’s Springfield, Ill. shop, will be moved to current facilities in Augusta, Ga., Houston and Los Angeles. Long Island’s airframe services and Columbus’ avionics shop will be consolidated at the company’s Springfield operation. The spokesperson reiterated that Springfield will become a “center of excellence” for airframe and avionics work, interior refurbishing and aircraft painting.
