Aviation Partners said last month it received Transport Canada certification of its Hawker 800 blended winglet modification. The approval allows operators of the approximately 20 Canadian-registered Hawker 800s to consider the upgrade.

“With Canadian certification complete, we now cover most of North America with our Hawker 800-series blended winglet programs,” said Aviation Partners v-p of operations Hank Thompson. Mexican-registered aircraft are approved for the installation under the FAA’s certification, Thompson told AIN. Meanwhile, Aviation Partners expects to receive European Aviation Safety Agency certification this month.

To date, 10 Hawker 800-series aircraft are flying with winglets, and Aviation Partners holds orders for nearly 30 more systems, “including firm orders in Canada,” said v-p of sales Gary Dunn.

A Hawker 800 upgraded with winglets becomes an 800SP, while a Hawker 800XP with winglets becomes an 800XP2. Aviation Partners said the mod cuts fuel burn for a given leg by up to 7 percent, adds 30 minutes of range, raises initial cruise altitudes by 2,000 feet, improves second-segment climb and hot-and-high airfield performance and boosts cruise speed by up to 18 knots.

Winglet installations carry a list price of $395,000 for the Hawker 800 and $425,000 for the 800XP. Aviation Partners has appointed two Hawker 800-series installation centers: West Star Aviation in Grand Junction, Colo., and Duncan Aviation in Battle Creek, Mich. “The goal,” said Thompson, “is to have three or four authorized Hawker winglet installation centers in North America and one in Europe.”
