Boston Hanscom Field may yet get a third FBO to compete against Jet Aviation and Signature Flight Support. Crosspoint, which in May 2005 won the bid to build a new FBO on vacant property used by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for research, elected not to build, so Hanscom operator Massport (Massachusetts Port Authority) plans to reopen the bidding process. The request for proposal, which includes tearing down an old hangar and office, should be released next month, according to a Massport spokesman. “We’re seeing interest in Hanscom Field pick up,” he said. “There’s certainly a need for more hangar space at the airport.” While the spokesman wouldn’t reveal lease terms for the property, they should be attractive. “We understand the economics of constructing a facility such as this.” He added that Massport will “entertain all sorts of business models.”
