Servizi Elicotteristici Italiani (SEI), the exclusive interiors shop for AgustaWestland’s civil helicopters, is planning a move to the U.S. to accommodate a decision by AgustaWestland to build an assembly plant in Philadelphia that will open later this year. According to SEI chief program manager Davide Marucco, the Italian interiors shop performed 133 AgustaWestland cabin completions last year, 15 of them in executive/VIP configuration and the remainder customized for police, medical transport and other specialized uses. SEI, he said, is currently in talks with a number of U.S. interiors facilities in search of an “appropriate alliance.” He also said that the company is expanding its facilities at San Benedetto del Tronto on the east coast of Italy to include very light jet interior capabilities. SEI builds the AgustaWestland interior components at San Benedetto and ships them in kit form for installation at its site near the AgustaWestland plant in Milan. “We think there is a very large market for the very light jet and we are also considering a role in creation of an association of small airports for the use of very light jets.”
