Lufthansa Technik of Hamburg, a leading provider of executive/VIP cabin interior solutions, in partnership with UK-based Andrew Winch Designs, announced the launch of a joint VIP interior concept of the Boeing 787 here at the show yesterday.

“The decision on a Boeing 787 is more than an acquisition, it is also a statement for absolute perfection in the most advanced form available,” said August Henningsen, chairman of the executive board of Lufthansa Technik (Booth No. 2662). “To realize the full potential of the 21st century’s dreamliner, we set out to re-explore the dimensions of quality and creativity to create a 787 in line with perfection.”

Added Winch, “Our creative team and Lufthansa Technik’s designers want to show that the possibilities for a cabin are endless.”

The result is a design with 32 lie-flat seats for beds, of which nine are classified as double beds. The forward lounge is in the quietest portion of the cabin and incorporates three multifunctional seating areas with 19-g certified divans and coffee tables at each seating area that may be raised and converted to dining tables.

Two en-suite guest cabins are mirrored to the left and right sides. Sliding doors create a private en-suite lobby for each cabin, and each has a single bed that can be easily converted to a double bed. These guest cabins have showers and a leather bench covering the toilet in the lavatory area. There is an additional VIP suite with queen-size bed, private dressing area, lavatory with shower and a 42-inch plasma screen over the bedroom credenza.

There is one full-width master stateroom, which by virtue of its location at the rear of the aircraft, offers maximum privacy. The sitting room includes a 42-inch plasma video screen, chaise lounge and table. The adjacent owner’s private office holds a desk, library and full communication capabilities. Curtains may be drawn to make the stateroom and office more private. Behind the bedroom is a large circular shower, his-and-hers basins, a full-height wardrobe, dedicated storage and private lavatory. An integrated movie theater offers a live entertainment venue, as well as a second social area.

Lufthansa Technik and Andrew Winch expect to offer a cutaway model based on the design at the European Business Aviation Association Convention & Exhibition in Geneva next spring.
