The FAA’s proposal to modify St. Louis Class B airspace mitigates much of the effect on general aviation thanks to early input from general aviation interests. Modifications are needed to protect instrument procedures for new Runway 11/29 at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, expected to be commissioned next April. The airspace ceiling will be kept at 8,000 feet and the floor will be established at 1,700 feet to allow continued VFR operations and transient overflights. Comments on the proposed design are due by January 6. Meanwhile, modifications to the Minneapolis Class B airspace–including raising the vertical limits from 8,000 feet to 10,000 feet–are scheduled to go into effect on February 16.
