When he announced first-quarter results, Nicholas Chabraja, chairman and CEO of Gulfstream parent company General Dynamics, said that new Gulfstreams will have “greater cabin comfort, as well as go farther and faster.” He would not elaborate, but the fact that the large-cabin Gulfstreams are behind competitors in cabin width sparks speculation that the next generation of aircraft from the Savannah OEM will have a wider cabin. According to aircraft analyst Conklin & de Decker, the Gulfstream G550’s cabin width is 7.33 feet (at the widest point), versus 7.7 feet for the Falcon 900EX and 7X; 8.17 feet for the Global Express and Global 5000; 8.2 feet for the Challenger 604/605; and 9 feet for the Embraer Lineage 1000. Gulfstream’s strong sales (see page 73), however, do not suggest that the market is shunning the current airplanes, and the company would neither confirm nor deny such speculation on future cabin width.
