Airbus is rolling out its Airspace cabin on its narrowbody fleet, with the most-requested feature—larger overhead bins—available starting in 2019.
Speaking at the Paris Air Show, Ingo Wuggetzer, Airbus v-p-cabin marketing, said expanding the product line to the A320 family will help Airbus customers deliver a consistent product on long- and short-haul flights. Airspace made its debut on the A350 and is also available on the A330neo.
The Airspace package includes new sidewalls that provide one additional inch of shoulder-height cabin width, a re-designed lavatory, and advanced LED lighting. But the most-requested feature is the bigger bins. Developed in a fixed configuration rather than the more common tilt-down bins, they accommodate bags as large as 24 x 16 x 10 inches.
“The A320 offers airlines 40 percent more volume for their passengers’ bags, accommodating larger carry-on bag dimensions than competing single-aisle airliners,” Wuggetzer said. “More overhead space means quicker boarding times, a value-add for passenger, and a better overall experience.”
The complete Airspace package will be available on A320s starting in 2020.
