Aircraft seat specialist Recaro last month received an order for 3,170 of its CL3710 seats for Avianca’s Airbus A320 family. This is the first time the German company has received an order from a South American airline. At the same time, Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) will upgrade 40 aircraft in its fleet with 5,000 of Recaro's BL3520 seats.
The CL3710 seats were designed for long-haul flights. They weigh less than 12 kilograms (26.4 pounds) and feature an adjustable headrest, recess for holding pens, and an inflight entertainment system. It also holds a fold-out foot rest with a foot net and a cup holder. To date, Recaro has sold approximately 200,000 units of this seat.
“We are extremely pleased that we have been awarded this contract by Avianca— our first installation of CL3710 seats for a South American airline—and for the opportunity to contribute to a particularly comfortable experience for Avianca’s passengers with our CL3710 model,” said Recaro CEO and shareholder Mark Hiller.
Meanwhile, Recaro (Hall 2b Stand E157) says the BL3520 unit that SAS will use is one of the company’s top products as it can be customized to meet customers’ needs. Like the CL3710, it comes with the adjustable headrest as well as angle adjustment and V-shaped side wings. The seat features an audio/video control unit with headphone access, channel selector and volume control on the armrest. There are fabric and leather combination seat covers available for this product.
“SAS and Recaro enjoy a longstanding and trusting partnership,” said Dr. Steffen Weidner, team leader sales, customer service for Recaro. “We are very pleased to continue our good collaboration with the new order and we are proud to contribute to the success of SAS with our aircraft seats and our service.”
