Bombardier has started flying an enhanced vision system (EVS) on the Global Express. The infrared-based EVS, being provided by Thales Avionics and CMC Electronics, is scheduled for certification in 2005, after which it will be standard equipment on new Global Express and Global 5000 jets, as well as being available for retrofit. Meanwhile, dynamic ground tests of the Global Express have simulated more than 60,000 flight hours–equivalent to about three lifetimes on the airframe–with “minimum wear” on key components. As a result of this milestone, Bombardier has requested Transport Canada to extend required maintenance intervals. Bombardier said there are now more than 100 Global Express airplanes flying, 20 of them based in Europe.
