Arrest made in killing of Zurich ATC controller

Swiss police have in custody a man accused of stabbing to death an air traffic controller. The man reportedly lost his wife and children in the midair collision of a DHL Boeing 757 and a Bashkirian Airlines Tupolev Tu-154 on the night of July 1, 2002. The controller had been handling traffic in the airspace where the collision occurred. At press time, it was unclear how the accused killer found the name and address of the controller, since Skyguide, the Swiss air traffic management organization, kept his identity secret after the fatal collision. The accident, still under investigation by Swiss air safety officials, raised questions about how ATC commands integrate with collision avoidance system alerts.
