Embraer expected to win Brazilian certification of its new 78- to 86-seat 175 soon after AIN went to press last month, marking the official introduction of the second aircraft of Embraer’s four-member series of jets ranging from 70 to 108 seats in capacity. Two prototypes flew only some 450 total test hours to validate performance estimates, commonality attributes, systems operations, interior design and the integrity of minor structural reinforcements before the flight-test program drew to a close early last month. A two-row stretch of the 70-seat Embraer 170, now flying with four airlines in the U.S. and Europe, the 175 has drawn a single firm order for 15 copies from Air Canada, which expects first delivery in July.
