A trade accord between Brazilian president Luis Inacio Lula da Silva and Russian president Vladimir Putin reached during Lula’s October visit to Moscow called for, among many other things, an appraisal of a possible co-production deal involving Embraer and Russia’s Aviakor.
According to Russian media reports, Embraer and Aviakor, one of the makers of the Antonov An-140 turboprop, have agreed to start talks “shortly” about licensed production of the ERJ 145 in Russia. Embraer declined to comment, but a joint statement on the results of the visit emphasized the company’s desire to establish ties with the Russian aviation industry, including a partnership on ERJ 145s.
