Business aviation operators traveling to Santa Monica Municipal Airport in California should be aware of a new city of Santa Monica law that severely increases the monetary penalty for violating the single-event noise limits. Check with Santa Monica Airport management or the FBOs there to make sure you fully understand the new enforcement procedure. According to one Santa Monica FBO, the previous penalties were “minimal.” Now they have been upped to $1,000 for the second offense; $2,000 for a third offense; $5,000 for the fourth offense; and operators are banned from using the airport for six months after the fifth offense. A warning letter follows the first offense.
