Hilton Software Adding Geo-ref DPs and STARs to WingX
WingX's new geo-referencing feature for departure procedures and STARs will be available on iOS devices in the second quarter.
Hilton Software's WingX Pro7 app will soon be able to display own-ship position on departure procedures and standard terminal arrival procedures.

Hilton Software’s WingX Pro7 electronic flight bag and moving-map app is adding a unique feature, geo-referencing (own-ship position display) on charts depicting departure procedures (DPs) and standard terminal arrival procedures (STARs).

While geo-referencing is common on most EFB apps, it is used only on maps and charts drawn to scale. DPs and STARs are not drawn to scale because they cover larger distances, and thus have not been amenable to showing the position of the host aircraft. Hilton Software calls its new technique “WingX non-linear warping technology,” and explained, “This image non-linearity prevents easily applied linear interpolation and extrapolation techniques from being used. WingX Non-Linear Warping Technology solves this problem and brings a capability that before today was assumed to be impossible.”

The new geo-referencing of DPs and STARs will be available for iOS devices in the second quarter, according to Hilton Software, followed by Android and Amazon Fire devices “later in the year.”
