Buyers of ADS-B upgrades in aircraft already equipped with Garmin 430W/530W navigators have a new option: the ability for FreeFlight Systems Rangr ADS-B units to utilize GPS information from Garmin 430W/530W navigators. The new interface capability also offers increased equipage flexibility for 430W/530W owners, according to FreeFlight.
The Rangr FDL-978-XVR transceiver is available without an internal GPS, so the 430W/530W provides the GPS source. The Rangr provides ADS-B OUT and IN on 978 MHz and thus can receive free ADS-B traffic and weather information for display on compatible mobile devices.
Without the internal GPS the FDL-978-XVR is priced at $3,495, and this includes antennas, installation kit and the Wi-Fi module needed to send weather and traffic information to a compatible mobile device. FreeFlight also announced that its ADS-B systems are included in the ForeFlight Connect program, according to FreeFlight, “and are the first certified solutions to integrate with ForeFlight.”
