SocialFlight, a mobile app and website that highlights aviation events and places to fly, has added a new feature, Hot Spots, which provides details about interesting destinations for aerial tours. In addition to cataloging aviation events, SocialFlight provides information on more than 300,000 points of interest near airports. More than 40,000 users have registered with SocialFlight, which sends out weekly email notices of upcoming events, according to Jeff Simon, SocialFlight president. About 25 to 30 new events are added every day.
The new Hot Spots can be user-created and include specific information about destinations, including photos, suggestions for how to fly the tour, Notams and other useful details. Among the Hot Spots in SocialFlight now are sites such as Niagara Falls and Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, Simon explained, and he encourages pilots to add more to the system. “There are already 20 that have been added by users,” he said, “and a few hundred that we added.”
SocialFlight can be used anywhere in the world. While SocialFlight gathers most of the events listings in the U.S. from the web, some enterprising users are adding local events in Australia, South Africa and Europe.
