Globalair.com has extended its Calvin L. Carrithers Aviation scholarship program for the 2015-2016 school year, after launching the program in 2014. The scholarship provides a total award of $1,000 for four students at accredited aviation university programs, with payments of $250 twice a semester.
Scholarship winners must write a short essay about their career plans, provide a letter of recommendation and proof of enrollment, and winners are announced in mid-August. Deadline for applications at www.globalair.com/scholarships is August 10. The winners must also write a weekly blog about their flight training or aviation management experiences.
“We want to be able to give support to college students studying aviation, as well as provide them a way to share their experiences with peers in the industry,” said Jeff Carrithers, Globalair.com president and CEO. “I believe it is extremely important for them to have a way to introduce themselves to the industry and begin networking now as they initiate their careers in such a fast-paced field.”
Last year’s winners were Eastern Kentucky University professional pilot students Tori Williams, Hayley Haning and Matt Jones.
Globalair.com, an online provider of airport information, an aviation directory and aircraft sales listings, has once again arranged for special discounts for pilots flying to and from Oshkosh to attend EAA AirVenture 2015. More than 3,150 FBOs report their fuel prices to Globalair.com, and many of these FBOs participate in the discount offers for Oshkosh travelers. “They offer great specials for pilots, from large fuel discounts to free parking to free camping access,” Carrithers said. “Some FBOs make it a little fun by offering food of some type. I always enjoy the free doughnuts myself, but some FBOs even offer hamburgers and barbecues.”
