Mooney revealed a full-scale mockup of its new M10 piston single to the U.S. market yesterday at Sun ’n’ Fun 2015 in Lakeland, Fla. The mockup at the company’s booth (MD-009A) showcases the design and ideas being incorporated into the M10J and T models, which were unveiled in November at the Zhuhai Airshow in China.
The Kerrville, Texas-based aircraft manufacturer is currently in the final construction phase of a proof-of-concept (POC) flight-test aircraft that is slated to fly later this year. FAA certification is scheduled for late 2017.
“The new M10 series Mooney will add a new product dimension to the current production lineup, which is currently anchored by the M20 Ovation and Acclaim,” said Mooney CEO Dr. Jerry Chen. These smaller and less expensive Mooneys will provide a stepping stone to the M20 series, for well-established aviation markets such as North America, South America and Europe, as well as for the fast-growing Chinese market.
The M10T is a fixed-gear, composite trainer equipped with Continental’s CD-135 Diesel engine. The M10J is targeted toward owner-pilots, with more luxury, amenities and a higher-horsepower CD-155 diesel engine, compared with the M10T. These two new Mooney aircraft will provide the general aviation market with a modern aircraft, the company said.
Following Sun ’n’ Fun this week, the M10 mockup will tour the U.S. at several airshows, including EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis.
