Elettronica (Stand R87) is offering Europe’s answer to electronic and cyber warfare at the Singapore Airshow 2018. The Italian company is bringing its ELT/572 Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM), designed to protect low flying aircraft against man portable air defence systems (MANPADS), ELT/160 radar warning receivers and VIRGILIUS electronic warfare system.
Many of these systems have already seen applications in European programs like the AW101 helicopter, Eurofighter Typhoon, NH90 helicopter and Mirage 2000.
“Like our handphones, we need to input more capabilities rather than taking them out due to a change in threats or operational requirement," said an Elettronica spokesperson. “With the increasing computing power of systems, we can now put in more capabilities within a smaller and lighter footprint."
“We also aim to be a systems integrator, beyond just being a supplier,” he added.
The company has successfully integrated the ELT/800V2 ESM on the Italian Air Force’s ATR-72MP, designated as the P-72A by the Italian air force, and made its first appearance at the LIMA Airshow last year in Langkawi, Malaysia.
Elettronica is also joining the counter-drone club with the ADRIAN (Anti Drone Interception Acquisition). The project commenced in 2015 to provide Italy’s Ministry of Interior the capability to counter rogue drones.
