Israeli company Senso Optics is claiming a breakthrough in thermal uncooled sensor technology. The company says that superior image quality is now possible in miniature cameras, thanks to the introduction of its Camera On-Chip (COC) device. Senso Optics is a supplier of thermal imaging technology to military and security markets, and also produces commercial avionics.

According to Senso Optics, the COC is the world’s first thermal application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC). Using this “thermal chip“ eliminates the need for signal and image processing cards in thermal uncooled cameras. The COC card measures 30 by 30 mm and consumes less than 1W of power. It provides resolution of 640 by 480 pixels.

The company has incorporated the COC in its X-Lite night-vision camera.
