BAE Systems announced a contract from Oman on Friday for 12 Eurofighter Typhoon fighters and eight Hawk advanced jet trainers (AJTs). Deliveries are expected to begin in 2017.

Oman will be the seventh country, and the second country in the Middle East, to operate the Typhoon, joining the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria and Saudi Arabia. In May, Saudi Arabia also entered a contract under the Saudi-British Defense Cooperation program to acquire 22 Hawk AJTs. The Oman order boosts the number of Hawks sold or ordered to 998, BAE said.

“We look forward to working in partnership with Oman's Ministry of Defense and the Royal Air Force of Oman, to ensure this is a highly successful program that maximizes the potential of both Hawk and Typhoon,” said Guy Griffiths, BAE Systems group managing director for international business.
