Aircraft management and charter group Opul Jets has acquired UK operator Zenith Aviation, which has three jets on its UK air operator certificate (AOC) and a Part 145 maintenance facility at its London Biggin Hill Airport headquarters. UK-based Opul Jets announced the acquisition on Monday, three weeks after acquiring another Biggin Hill-based aircraft management and sales group, Wallcourt Aviation.
Zenith currently operates a Bombardier Learjet 45 and a pair of Learjet 75s, all of which are available for charter under its AOC. Its maintenance facility provides support for multiple Bombardier business aircraft, including Challenger and Global models, as well as for Textron’s Cessna 560, 525, and 680 jet families.
Until now, Opul Jets has not had its own AOC and has offered some of the aircraft it manages, including a Global Express XRS and a Learjet 40, under the AOCs of its partners Saxon Air Charter in the UK and Av8Jet in Malta. The company said it will gradually transfer some of its aircraft to Zenith’s AOC to bring operational controls and costs in-house. It also has bases in Dubai and the Isle of Man.
UK AOC holders can operate charter flights within the UK and also between UK and European Union (EU) airports. However, due to post-Brexit cabotage restrictions, British aircraft operators can no longer operate charters between EU cities without special authorization.
Following the acquisition, Zenith’s existing leadership team will remain in their positions, along with all staff, as the company starts trading under the Opul brand. Zenith managing director Stuart Mulholland indicated that the acquisition could result in more resources and support being available to the company.
“This acquisition brings together two highly complementary organizations,” said Opul Jets partner Chris Wall. “Zenith’s reputation for technical strength, precision, and service perfectly aligns with Opul’s commitment to delivering a seamless, world-class aviation experience. With AOC and maintenance approvals now in-house, we’re uniquely positioned to offer our clients full control, flexibility, and safety across every flight.”
