A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Modern Aviation is now the sole aviation services provider at Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci/Isla Grande Airport (TJIG) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, after it acquired rival Puerto Rico FBO. In 2021, Modern <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2021-10-27/modern-aviation-expands-caribbean">purchased</a> the Million Air franchisee at TJIG, giving the growing FBO chain its first foothold in the Caribbean. This latest move will see the consolidation of the two locations.
Modern recently finished the first of <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2023-01-16/modern-aviation-add-hangars-puerto-rico-airport">two hangars</a> it is constructing at TJIG that will add 48,000 sq ft of aircraft shelter when the second is completed by April. In its latest purchase, Modern gained an additional 40,000 sq ft of hangar space and offices, which will bring it to a total of more than 150,000 sq ft.
“This acquisition will enable us to more efficiently provide services to customers at TJIG by adding significant hangar and office infrastructure to our current offerings,” explained Modern CEO Mark Carmen. “We are pleased to welcome the employees and customers of Puerto Rico FBO to Modern Aviation.”
Benitez Aviation, Puerto Rico FBO’s former owner, will continue to operate its aircraft management and Part 135 charter operation from the facility.
“We are pleased to partner with Modern Aviation, a preeminent provider of FBO services, as we can continue to focus on growing our aircraft management business,” said Benitez Aviation CEO Carlos Benitez.
