A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. California-based Clay Lacy Aviation, which is<a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2022-08-09/clay-lacy-aviation-launches-east-coast-expansion-project">&nbsp;building</a> its first East Coast FBO at Connecticut’s Waterbury-Oxford Airport (KOXC), has reached a milestone in its development. Clay Lacy announced that it has fully sold out its first 40,000-sq-ft hangar in advance of the facility’s opening in early 2024.
The hangar and adjoining 5,000-sq-ft terminal represent Phase I of the project. Plans call for the $20 million, 11-acre complex to eventually include three same-size hangars with 29-foot-high doors capable of sheltering the latest under-development ultra-long-range business jets, up to and including the Falcon 10X.
They will permit flight departments with two or more aircraft to hangar them together, an option that is lacking in the tight Tri-State aviation real estate market, and Clay Lacy is now accepting reservations for the latter two, which are anticipated to be completed by mid-2025.
“We considered aircraft owners' needs first and foremost when developing this project,” said Buddy Blackburn, the company’s senior v-p for FBO operations at Waterbury-Oxford. “The overwhelming response has shown that aircraft owners and flight departments have been searching for space to accommodate both current and future aircraft models and a tailored aircraft design solution that allows maximum protection and access for clients.”
