  • Pilots are not flying for proficiency because it is not in the budget. This has long-term consequences from not being as skilled for crosswinds or cross-country flight planning. Insurance companies like to have proficient pilots who fly regularly when considering their premiums for the next year.
  • Pilots not refueling at the end of a flight due to higher cost. This procedure will make the aircraft susceptible to moisture in the fuel and hardening of rubber fuel cells (causing leakage), especially in the fall and winter.
  • Running out of fuel becomes a possibility with a pilot’s lack of proficient planning or trying to make that airport after stronger than normal winds. Be conservative on fueling because it is not worth an accident.
