Bombardier today took the veil off of its expanded service center at London Biggin Hill Airport (EGKB), revealing a nearly 225,000-sq-ft (23,225-sq-m) facility thatâs more than doubled its footprint at one of the busiest business airports in the UK and Europe.
The Canadian airframerâs facility was established at EGKB in 2017 and the expansion brings additional hangar space and capabilities to the location including heavy maintenance and modification capacity; wheel, battery, and component paint shops; and on-site interiors. The hangar features 22 service bays, up from eight, providing space for up to 14 Global 7500s at one time. Also, the expansion features the addition of solar panels and electrical charging stations to reduce the facility's impact on the environment. Employment at the center is expected to increase to more than 250 people.
âWith the expansion of the London Biggin Hill Service Centre, we are taking another step in showcasing our unwavering commitment to our European customers with industry-leading services on a global scaleâOEM expertise that customers demand and expect,â said Jean-Christophe Gallagher, Bombardier executive v-p of services, support, and corporate strategy. âThe European market is a very important one for Bombardier and this expansion perfectly underscores our ongoing commitment to the region, allowing us to be closer to our customers and offering them even more world-class services and support.â
