As tradition, NBAA-BACE is serving as a venue for a slew of awards and scholarships as the association recognizes the industry’s finest and helps pave the way for future professionals. Key honorees include Doug Schwartz, the former manager of global aviation services at ConocoPhillips, and Jean “John” Rosanvallon, the former Dassault Falcon Jet (DFJ) CEO.
A former board member and industry safety advocate, Schwartz was presented with the John H. Winant Award. Named after the association’s first full-time staff president, the Winant Award is presented annually to a former NBAA board member with extensive service to the industry.
Schwartz spent nearly 14 years on NBAA’s board of directors before he retired in 2016 and has chaired the association’s Safety Committee. NBAA credited Schwartz with advancing focus surrounding data-based safety initiatives and the identification of root causes for accidents. In addition, he helped forward safety and security considerations in best practices while he was chair of the NBAA Security Council.
In addition to his role at ConocoPhillips, Schwartz spent 25 years with FlightSafety International, where he helped develop crew resource management training and the introduction of such programs for business aviation.
Rosanvallon is recognized for his “exceptional record of service to the industry.” The Doswell Award is bestowed upon individuals who have had “lifelong achievement on behalf of and in support of the aims, goals, and objectives of business aviation.” NBAA considers candidates each year for the Doswell Award but only grants it when deserving individuals are identified.
NBAA (Booth 1289) noted Rosanvallon has had numerous contributions to the industry through roles as a member of NBAA’s Advisory Council, as well as on the board of directors for the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), the Corporate Angel Network, and the French-American Chamber of Commerce. He was GAMA chairman in 2011. In addition, his industry service has included the board of trustees for the Wings Club of New York and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
NBAA further presented a range of scholarships to young people seeking careers in business aviation. Among them: the William M. Fanning Maintenance Scholarship was awarded to two students; the Fred and Diane Fitts Aviation Scholarship, was handed to four students studying in a variety of industry disciplines; the Lawrence Ginocchio Aviation Scholarship honoring honesty, integrity and selflessness had five recipients; and the Conklin and Bill de Decker Business Aviation Management Scholarship, UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship, and John F. Rahilly Memorial Scholarship for Future A&P Technicians were each presented to a recipient.
Further, NBAA announced 23 recipients of the 2022 Flight Attendants/Flight Technicians Scholarship and presented a C&W Family Scholarship to promote professional development in business aviation.
