Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

With an eye on the initial rollout of nationwide 5G networks using C-Band, NBAA has developed <a href="https://nbaa.org/aircraft-operations/communications-navigation-surveillance-cns/5g-interference/">a resource</a> to help keep members updated on potential aircraft operational limits and safety precautions that may be necessary.

 


<a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/aerospace/2022-01-04/airlines-wireless-carriers-agree-temporary-5g-ceasefire">After agreeing to a two-week delay</a>, AT&amp;T and Verizon are to begin the initial implementation at select locations and lower power national wide. The 5G networks will operate in the spectrum between 3.7 and 3.98 gigahertz, next to frequencies used by radio altimeters. The NBAA resource will provide a detailed summary of potential effects on radio altimeters and other safety technologies in business aircraft.

 


NBAA’s site provides a frequently asked questions section; information on potential effects on aircraft equipment and capabilities; access to FAA airworthiness directives, special airworthiness information bulletins, and other regulatory publications; and news articles, press releases, webinars, and podcasts discussing concerns about signal interference.

 


“We expect this situation to evolve rapidly as the clock ticks down toward the rollout of these new high-speed communications networks,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “NBAA has developed this new resource to provide the latest, up-to-the-minute information to help operators understand what they should know&nbsp;and what they should do.”
