As a result of airport master plan developments at Iowa’s Des Moines International Airport, long-time aircraft sales, parts, and maintenance provider Des Moines Flying Service last week relocated to a new facility at the field. According to the company, the move was necessitated by the airport’s wish to build a new terminal on the north side of the field. Relocation planning began in 2018, while construction of the $8.7 million, 26,100-sq-ft facility started early last year.

Located on the airport’s south cargo ramp, the newly-opened building offers a 35 percent size advantage over DMFS’ former location, which will be demolished to make way for the new terminal construction. “This new facility is larger than the previous operating footprint and it is laid out well for us to provide optimum service to our customers,” noted company president Steve Thompson. “It allows for more efficient processes plus our entire team will be in the same building enhancing collaboration and streamlining workflow.”

Established in 1939, DMFS is one of the oldest Piper Aircraft dealers in the world, as well as an authorized HondaJet dealer. Earlier this year, DMFS was acquired by Muncie Aviation, the world’s oldest Piper dealer.
