Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

The FAA, ramping back up after the 35-day partial U.S. government shutdown, has issued a warning that the airspace surrounding Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta is a “no drone zone” for the three days leading up to and during Super Bowl LIII, which will be held this coming Sunday.

 


From 5:30 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on game day, the FAA is establishing a temporary flight restriction prohibiting drones within a 30-nm radius of the stadium up to 17,999 feet msl. The drone restrictions further extend for one nm around the stadium up to 1,000 feet agl during specified hours January 31 to February 3, then leading up to the more extensive restrictions.

 


The "no drone zone" comes <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2018-12-10/faa-plans-restrictions-atm-procedures-super-bowl">in addition to the 30-nm-radius TFR in place</a> for general aviation aircraft on Super Bowl Sunday and the air traffic management plans required in the days leading up to the event for these operations. The FAA has established <a href="https://superbowl.faa.gov/">a webpage</a> outlining operational restrictions this week over the Atlanta area.

 


U.S. Customs and Border Protection aircraft will assist in patrolling the TFR airspace. The FAA warns that pilots and drone operators who violate the TFRs could face penalties exceeding $20,000 and potential criminal prosecution.
