Scandaled 1MDB Global 5000 Seized in Singapore
The aircraft is in the Jet Aviation hangar at Seletar.

A Bombardier Global 5000 allegedly related to the Malaysian state-fund 1MDB scandal is being held in Singapore, awaiting return to Malaysia for further investigations. 1MDB is a state investment fund set up by former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak.

The U.S. Department of Justice identified the aircraft as N689WM, which was acquired by Malaysian financier Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low, in 2010 for $35.4 million using funds allegedly taken from 1MDB. The U.S. Department of Justice is also investigating the various assets linked to Low, who is now on the run.

Jet Aviation acknowledged to Singapore media that the aircraft is in its facility at Seletar Airport. Low's Global 5000 was reportedly seized and grounded in Singapore as early as January 2017.

The new Malaysian government is hoping to repossess the aircraft; however, the Singapore police said that they have yet to receive any formal request from the Malaysian authorities. "Any such request, along with other requests for the return of seized 1MDB-related assets, will be dealt with in accordance with Singapore's legal framework," a Singapore police spokesperson said.
