Puerto Rico’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU) has received another U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) general aviation processing facility (GAF). While the airport has a modern GAF co-located at the Jet Aviation FBO, this new processing facility was built by Airport Aviation Services, which was the first FBO to operate at the San Juan gateway, starting in 1972.
Anthony Maceira, director of the Puerto Rico Port Authority, congratulated the company on the opening of the new GAF. “The execution of projects like this one helps to place the Luis Munoz Marin as a world-caliber international airport, with a net result of economic activity and jobs for the island,” he said.
The $2.5 million project included the state-of-the-art customs facility, constructed according to CBP guidelines to provide inspection of international flights and passengers, and a 10,800-sq-ft hangar that can shelter midsize business jets. It adjoins the Airport Aviation Services’ nearly two-acre ramp.
“CBP welcomes the opportunity to work with the private sector with the goal of improving the traveler experience upon arrival into the U.S., therefore increasing tourism and fostering economic growth while ensuring the highest level of security,” said CBP San Jose-area port director Edwin Cruz.
