Tamarack Expands CJ Winglet Offerings with New STCs
With FAA and EASA approvals for the CJ2 and CJ2+, Tamarack can now offer its Atlas Active Winglets on the Citation C525, 525A, and 525B series.

Tamarack Aerospace Group received FAA and EASA approvals for installation of its Atlas Active Winglets on the CJ2 and CJ2+, clearing the way for the Sandpoint, Idaho company to offer the technology on all Cessna Citation C525, 525A, and 525B jets. The approvals followed FAA and EASA nods for the CJ3/CJ3+ (525B) in early February. Initial supplemental type certification for the 525 series, which includes the CJ, CJ1, CJ1+, and M2, was granted in December 2016.

Noting the latest approval marks the second STC for the CitationJet series this year, Tamarack founder Nick Guida said, “It shows how agile the Tamarack team has become in obtaining multiple sequential certifications.”

The winglets employ a load-alleviation system designed to counteract gust or maneuver wing loading events and eliminate the heavy wing reinforcement and structural additions necessary for passive winglets. The result, Tamarack said, is the winglets provide the CJ2 with a 1,700-nm range at maximum continuous thrust with IFR reserve and boost maximum zero fuel weight on the CJ2+ by 400 pounds and by 800 pounds on the CJ2. Further, the winglets enable direct climb to FL450 in 30 minutes or less, Tamarack said.

“It’s exciting to also now be able to offer this upgrade to our C525A customers,” said Tamarack COO Brian Cox. “Beyond range and time to climb, owners will also see the other benefits of Tamarack’s Active Winglets such as stability, improved hot/high performance, new LED exterior lighting, aesthetics, and value retention.”

The company has increased its installation capacity in Sandpoint to be able to offer a one-week installation time (plus painting time), Cox added.
