Aerospace Technologies Group Exhibiting Two-Person 'Skypod' for Bizjets

A modular two-person compartment for business jets is the latest offering from Aerospace Technologies Group, a company known for its window-shade systems for private and commercial aviation. ATG is demonstrating the new product, called a “Skypod,” at its booth (N4007) here at the show.    


According to the Boca Raton, Florida company, the Skypod is aimed primarily at the VIP market but was not developed with any particular aircraft in mind. It represents a private “mini-cabin within the cabin” and incorporates ATG’s latest Panacea Shade System, which combines electro-mechanical and electronic-dimming shades and offers multi-spectrum LED effect/wash lighting. Other features include lie-flat VIP-style seating; a 4D Airborne Theater System with a 43-inch 4K ultra-high-definition monitor and Dolby Atmos 3D surround sound; and active noise-canceling with no headsets required. Additional options under consideration include a 65-inch (diagonal) curved OLED headliner panel, multiple seating/bedding configurations, and a version of the module set-up as a medevac compartment.    


At present, however, Skypod is simply a prototype. “For NBAA,” said a company spokesperson, “we are using the Skypod as a way for attendees to experience our core product— the window-shade system—in the environment it was developed for without the distraction of a convention hall. Also, we thought it would be an excellent way to show off our R&D and manufacturing capabilities.” 


Founded in 1998, ATG specializes in the development and production of aerospace-grade interior components and systems. In 2002, it introduced its first product, the Powertech Shade System—the first powered natural-light control system designed specifically for aircraft passengers. Today, more than 70,000 ATG aircraft window-shade systems are installed on more than 30 aircraft platforms of all sizes, ranging from the Learjet business jet to the Airbus A380.
