Kansas-based aircraft special-mission and avionics modification specialist Butler National has been awarded an FAA STC for its ADS-B OUT solution for TCAS II-equipped Learjet 35s, 35As, 36s and 36As.
The installation, which satisfies the Jan. 1, 2020 equipage mandate in the U.S. and the 2020 European mandate as well as others in the rest of the world, provides independent ADS-B OUT, using Garmin GTX 3000 transponders, the GDL 88 dual-band UAT/1090 receiver with WAAS GPS sensor and the Flight Stream 210 Bluetooth wireless gateway. According to the company, the STC provides a seamless interface to existing TCAS II equipment while offering access to ADS-B IN, with reception of dual-band transmissions from the UAT ground stations and other aircraft. The Flight Stream 210 can then relay that information to onboard mobile devices running the appropriate apps.
“The FAA-approved Butler National ADS-B solution not only provides ADS-B OUT compliance, but also allows access to very useful pilot information,” noted company president and CEO Clark Stewart. “The [mobile device]-Bluetooth interface with the Garmin Pilot app or ForeFlight provides easy access to the uplinked Flight Information Service-Broadcast and Traffic Information Service-Broadcast information.”
The company also has an ADS-B STC for the Lear 24, 25, 35, 35A, 36 and 36A series without TCAS II installed.
