Triumph Group Sells Off APU MRO Businesses
The U.S. and Asian operations will be rebranded as TurbineAero, under the ownership of global investment firm The Gores Group.

Triumph Group has sold its U.S.-based auxiliary power unit (APU) MRO business Triumph Air Repair and Triumph Engines to global investment firm The Gores Group, and it expects to complete the sale of the APU overhaul operations of Triumph Aviation Services-Asia to Gores Small Capitalization Partners next month. The two businesses will be combined into one unit and rebranded as TurbineAero, an “independent aerospace component maintenance, repair and overhaul service provider focused on APUs and related products.” It will operate two facilities—Chandler, Arizona, and Chonburi, Thailand.

In addition, a separate facility in Tempe, Arizona, will provide hot-section component manufacturing and repair for OEMs, aircraft operators and repair and overhaul providers, offering complex machining, engineering, inspection, non-destructive testing and thermal coatings.

To manage the new company, Rob Higby, formerly vice president of sales and marketing for StandardAero’s airlines and fleets division, was named CEO. “The Gores Group is an ideal partner for TurbineAero as we enter the next phase of growth and expand our portfolio of work,” Higby noted. “With its growth expertise and service-focused executives, we are steadfast in our commitment to further increase service levels and our breadth of APU MRO service offerings.”
