Aviation Partners split-scimitar winglets are now approved for all Boeing BBJ, BBJ2 and BBJ3 models, and are now standard equipment on all new-delivery BBJs. Two ABACE exhibitors–Aloft AeroArchitects (Booth H200) and Lufthansa Technik (Booth H115)–have already installed them on BBJs. Nearly 700 Boeing 737s along with eight BBJs have been retrofitted with the new winglets by Aviation Partners Boeing (APB), a joint venture between Boeing and Aviation Partners.
Compared with the Aviation Partners blended winglet design, the split-scimitar winglets add a 2-percent range increase, increasing the range of a seven-aux-tank BBJ to that of a BBJ with eight auxiliary tanks. The split-scimitar winglets modify existing blended winglets by adding a ventral strake, strengthening internal winglet structure and replacing winglet tips with new scimitar tips.
“Due to the vast number of shipsets being consumed by ABP’s airline customers,” said Gary Dunn, Aviation Partners vice president of sales and marketing, “early planning is the key to securing a winglet delivery position for a BBJ.”
